SymRx is an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) application that allows customers/patients of pharmacies/hospitals to refill their prescriptions over the telephone. The application first authenticates the customer by having him/her enter their prescription number. Once authenticated, the IVR application checks on the customer's prescription status against the pharmacy or hospital's pharmacy management system. Depending on the status returned, the IVR application performs one of the following actions: refill the customer's prescription, play back the status of prescription, or transfer the caller to a customer service agent. The IVR application can also perform other functions, such as giving the address of the pharmacy location and the hours of operations. SymRx is an IVR application that runs on Windows Servers. It interfaces with the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) via telephony cards allowing the application to answers telephony calls by the customer. The applications can also play back pre-recorded messages and interact with customers via dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) inputs from the telephone's keypad.
