The mark consists of indigo blue representing the community of Clinton, the white represents purity; and the red represents Laurens County School District 56, which educates students in Clinton. The three colors on the flag represent the three chartering of the city. The white band going upwards and to the right represents Clinton's forward progress, which is made possible by the schools and community, also represented by the red and blue bands flanking the white stripe. Looking from left to right; one encounters five colors (blue-red-white-blue-red); this represents that the city was originally called Five Points. The strips of color bordering their opposite represents that the community and the schools are always in touch and influencing each other. The shade of blue also represents the state; as it is directly taken from the flag of South Carolina, as is the state symbol (Crescent Moon).
