The mark consists of a literal portion "PENUMBRA" written in white stylized letters. The literal portion "PENUMBRA" is centered in the mark below a perspective view of three white stylized skulls with various black lining, each missing the lower jaw and having one or more cracks in the dome, the leftmost is oriented forty-five degrees to the left, the second pointing directly forward, and the third oriented to the right. Centered above the center skull is a stylized white skull rotated approximately 45 degrees from the vertical, with shadowing around the sides of the skull and under the upper jaw, wherein the shadowing resembles a crescent moon. A contrasting white silhouette of several barley stalks is superimposed and centered in front of the center and rightmost skull. Along the top of the design as far down as the top of the center skull, random liquid white splashes are used as a contrasting frame. A similar contrasting frame is used along the lower edge of the design extending through the bottom of the literal portion "PENUMBRA", all of the above appearing with a black background. A literal portion "SCHWARZBIER" written vertically in standard black script and surrounded by a white bar is centered above the leftmost skull. A literal portion "CALAVERA" also in black stylized letters is centered at the bottom of the mark in a white background. The letter "C" in "CALAVERA" has a quartered inner design, the upper left quadrant contains the letter "B", the upper right and lower left quadrants each contain a letter "E", and the lower right quadrant contains the letter "R".
