Sembrando Semillas refers to the youth program of the New Mexico Acequia Association which is a unique model of youth leadership development that engages youth in hands-on agricultural activities, media production, leadership training, and public speaking. We provide this service through youth mentorship on agricultural traditions associated with acequias. Youth are also trained to document their experiences with digital photos, video, and audio and to create digital storytelling pieces such as radio shows and short videos. Participants in the program give public presentations on their experience to policymakers, community organizations, and schools. The result is a cadre of youth leaders with hands-on experience in their cultural traditions as well as skills and modern communications tools to express their cultural values
